Armenian White Wines
Mountain Light • Golden Seed • Volcanic Freshness
"In the high Armenian plateaus, white grapes absorb the purity of mountain air and the strength of volcanic rock to create wines of crystalline elegance."
The Elegance of High-Altitude Terroir and Volcanic Soils
Armenian white wines represent the best-kept secret of the Caucasus, a region that National Geographic has identified as the cradle of world viticulture. Unlike mass-produced white wines, Armenian varieties such as Voskehat and Kangun have evolved over millennia in extreme climatic conditions, adapting to altitudes exceeding 1,500 meters above sea level.
The geology of regions such as Vayots Dzor and Aragatsotn is dominated by basaltic soils and volcanic tuff. According to International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) standards, this type of terroir is fundamental in providing the distinctive minerality and tension on the palate that characterizes high-end white wines. At La Cava Shop, we select labels that respect this unique biological heritage.
Indigenous White Varieties
Voskehat: The Golden Seed
Considered the noblest white grape in the country, Voskehat produces wines with an imposing structure and surprising aging potential. In our Armenian wine collection, this variety stands out for its floral notes, stone fruits, and vibrant minerality that evolves into nutty nuances over time.
Kangun: Freshness and Adaptability
Kangun is the grape of freshness par excellence. It is the base of many of our most vibrant white wines. It offers a clean nose of green apple, citrus, and white flowers, ideal for those seeking a refreshing experience yet with the depth that only ancient soils can bestow.
Pairing and Gastronomic Experience
The versatility of these wines makes them ideal companions for contemporary gastronomy. Their natural acidity acts as a perfect bridge for dishes that require palate cleansing. If you prefer more robust profiles, we also invite you to explore our selection of red wines, where the power of the Areni Noir grape complements the offerings of this historic region.
At what temperature should they be served?
To appreciate the complexity of Voskehat, we recommend a serving temperature of between 10°C and 12°C. Lighter whites like Kangun are best expressed between 8°C and 10°C. This thermal precision is key to not masking the delicate volcanic minerality.
