Bigardo: Signature Wines D.O. Toro Spain

The Strength of Tinta de Toro

The D.O. Toro, on the banks of the Duero River in the province of Zamora, is renowned for its powerful and richly colored red wines, made from the indigenous Tinta de Toro variety (a local clone of Tempranillo). The extreme climate of the Castilian plateau and the sandy, stony soils produce thick-skinned grapes, resulting in concentrated wines with firm tannins and a remarkable aging potential.

At La Cava Shop, we present the Bigardo selection, a project that interprets the robust character of Tinta de Toro with a contemporary approach, seeking ripe fruit, structure, and elegance in the same wine.

Our Selection

  • Bigardo Tinta de Toro Red Wine: The classic expression of the winery — ripe black fruit, spices, and firm tannins characteristic of the Zamora terroir.
  • Satellite Tinta de Toro Red Wine: A more concentrated and aged interpretation, designed for those seeking an aged red with more complexity.

Frequently Asked Questions

What distinguishes Tinta de Toro from traditional Tempranillo?

Although genetically related to Tempranillo, Tinta de Toro has adapted over centuries to Zamora's extreme climate and soils, producing smaller clusters and thicker skins. The result is wines with greater color concentration, body, and alcohol content than a Tempranillo from other regions.

What dishes pair well with Bigardo wines?

Their structure and firm tannins make them ideal for grilled red meats, roasted lamb, game stews, and aged cheeses.
