"The democratization of excellence: A century-old family legacy that has placed Lisbon wines on the map of major global collectors."
01. Innovation from the Alenquer Hills
Founded by Joaquim Santos Lima in the late 19th century, Casa Santos Lima is today the main driving force of the Lisbon wine region. Its operational base in Alenquer benefits from the Montejunto mountain range, which protects the vineyards from excessive Atlantic winds, allowing for perfect phenolic ripeness. This region is rigorously supervised by the CVR Lisboa.
Within our curation of Portuguese wines, this winery stands out for its versatility. Although its heart beats in Lisbon, they have expanded their mastery to regions such as Alentejo, Douro, and the Algarve, complying with the regulations of the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho (IVV).
02. The Art of Lusitanian Blending
Native Grapes
The winery specializes in enhancing Touriga Nacional, Castelão, and Tinta Roriz. According to Wines of Portugal, this use of native varieties is what gives labels such as Confidencial Reserva their unmistakable aromatic profile.
Avant-garde and Freshness
From their award-winning full-bodied red wines to the vibrant Vinho Verde from the north, Casa Santos Lima maintains a consistency that has earned it multiple medals at the Challenge International du Vin.
Alenquer Terroir: Clay-limestone soils and Atlantic breeze.
Sommelier's Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Casa Santos Lima wines in Lisbon different?
The Lisbon region, formerly known as Estremadura, produces wines with an excellent freshness-alcohol ratio. The Alenquer soils contribute a minerality that balances the fruity power of the blends. You can find more about these routes at Visit Portugal.
Are your wines suitable for aging?
Especially their "Reserva" lines, such as Colossal or Confidencial, have a firm tannin structure that allows them to evolve positively for 5 to 8 years. At LA CAVA SHOP, we recommend storing them at 16°C to preserve their complexity.
Pairing Recommendation
Casa Santos Lima's white wines, based on Arinto and Fernão Pires, are the ideal accompaniment for grilled fish and fresh seafood. On the other hand, their robust red wines harmonize with traditional Portuguese gastronomy, such as roasted lamb or intense aged cheeses.
