Enrique Mendoza
Alicante • Precision Viticulture • Sustainability
"Wine is conceived in the field. Our obsession is biological balance and water control to extract the most elegant essence of the Mediterranean."
01. The Legacy of Villena and Monastrell
Founded by Enrique Mendoza in the 1970s, the winery has been the driving force behind the rebirth of D.O.P. Alicante. Their vineyards in the "Finca El Chaconero" in Villena are a laboratory of biodiversity. Here, the Monastrell variety —included in our selection of red wine— reaches unprecedented levels of sophistication, thanks to sandy, gravelly, and limestone soils that give an unmistakable mineral freshness.
This commitment to local identity has positioned Mendoza as a benchmark in The Wine Advocate (Robert Parker) reports, where the ability of their wines to balance the power of the Mediterranean sun with vibrant acidity and silky tannins is highlighted.
02. Innovation: The Art of the Dendrometer
Bodegas Enrique Mendoza is a world pioneer in precision viticulture. Unlike conventional irrigation, they use dendrometers to measure the contractions of the vine trunk in real time. This monitoring of water stress allows water to be applied only at critical moments, inducing the plant to concentrate polyphenols and sugars in smaller, more aromatic berries.
This standard of agronomic management is aligned with the technical guidelines of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine), guaranteeing production that respects the environment by eliminating herbicides and systemic insecticides in favor of their own organic fertilizers.
Collection Analysis
Santa Rosa
The iconic blend of the house (Cabernet, Syrah and Merlot). A Bordeaux-style wine with an Alicante soul, aged in French Allier oak barrels. It is one of our most sought-after labels in the premium wines section for its legendary aging potential.
Estrecho
Single-vineyard Monastrell that represents pure verticality. It is the result of old vineyards struggling in limestone soils. A "terroir" concept promoted internationally by Wines from Spain (ICEX).
La Tremenda
The gateway to modern Monastrell. It is juicy, direct and reflects the typicality of the southeast. An exceptional option within our offer of Spanish wines with an unbeatable price-quality ratio.
Collector's Guide
How do Enrique Mendoza wines evolve in the bottle?
Thanks to the high concentration of polyphenols obtained through water stress control, labels such as Santa Rosa or Estrecho have an aging potential of 10 to 15 years. For a detailed analysis of their vintages, we recommend consulting the Peñín Guide.
At what temperature should these Mediterranean wines be served?
To appreciate the aromatic complexity without the alcohol being the protagonist, it is recommended to serve red wines between 16°C and 17°C. The Chardonnay fermented in barrels from the house should be served at 10°C, following the standards of the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI).
