Anís Dulce Las Cadenas
Hijos de Pablo Esparza Distillery • Navarre
"The emblem of the Navarrese distillery since 1872. A spirit that captures the essence of star anise through ancestral processes in direct-fired copper stills."
History and Legacy of Villava
Founded by Pablo Esparza in the 19th century, the Hijos de Pablo Esparza distillery is one of the pillars of the spirits industry in northern Spain. Anís Las Cadenas owes its name to the historic chains of Navarre and its recipe remains unchanged, using exclusively agricultural alcohol and selected Pimpinella anisum seeds.
This product is part of the prestigious tradition of Spanish aniseed liqueurs, a sector regulated by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture which guarantees the quality of the traditional maceration and distillation processes.
Tasting Notes and Technical Profile
Visual and Chemical
Colorless with diamond-like brilliance. It has a high glycerine density due to its sugar content. When mixed with water, it produces the famous Louché Effect, a phenomenon documented in Difford's Guide that demonstrates the purity of its green anise essential oils.
Palate
Sweet and velvety attack. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, allowing herbaceous and sweet spice notes to dominate the aftertaste. It is a fundamental pillar in the category of premium digestives in our cellar.
Consumption Rituals
Anís Las Cadenas Dulce is naturally versatile. It can be enjoyed neat in a liqueur glass at room temperature or chilled. In Mediterranean culture, it is the base of the "Palomita" (one part anise to three parts cold water), ideal as a refreshing aperitif.
Furthermore, it is an irreplaceable ingredient in traditional confectionery for making rosquillas, pestiños, and sponge cakes. If you wish to explore other similar profiles for your mixology, we recommend visiting our section on liqueurs and spirits.
