Founded in 2003 in Laguardia by Frenchman Tom Puyaubert, Bodegas Exopto is a breath of fresh air in the Rioja landscape. Its vision returns the spotlight to the vineyard, with old-vine plots spread across Rioja Alta and Rioja Oriental, worked organically. Its first wine was Horizonte de Exopto.
Native Varieties
Exopto works with Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. Tempranillo grows in Rioja Alta, with an Atlantic climate; Garnacha and Graciano in Rioja Oriental, with a somewhat more Mediterranean climate. The result is wines of lively acidity, fresh and of great contemporary elegance.
Old Vines
La Mimbrera comes from the first plot of old bush vines that Puyaubert bought in Ábalos in 2003, planted with Garnacha and Tempranillo between 1890 and 1950. Its La Mimbrera Graciano puts a grape that occupies only a small part of Rioja's vineyards in the spotlight.
