UKAN: A New Generation of Rioja Alavesa
UKAN is a project founded in 2018 by Koldo Eguren, the fifth generation of a well-known winemaking family of the DOCa Rioja. It is a small winery in Laguardia that seeks to bring the landscape of Rioja Alavesa into the glass through sustainable viticulture and handcrafted winemaking. Its name comes from a Basque word meaning "to have" and alludes to inherited knowledge.
Following a Bordeaux-inspired model, the winery makes two wines: Ukan, its flagship wine, and Senderos de Ukan, its second wine. Discover this proposal at La Cava Shop and also explore our wines of Spain.
Viticulture and Terroir
Tailor-Made Viticulture
Each vineyard is interpreted individually, with sustainable farming and minimal intervention in the winery. Fruit and lively acidity come to the fore, with a more measured use of oak than in the classic Rioja style.
Geology and Climate
Rioja Alavesa is characterized by clay-limestone soils and by the protection of the Sierra de Cantabria, which moderates the cold northern winds and allows a slow ripening of Tempranillo.

The winery's flagship wine, an old-vine Tempranillo from Laguardia, aged in French oak barrels. Available in a 750 ml bottle and in a 1.5 L Magnum, ideal for cellaring and sharing.
Senderos de Ukan 2019
Senderos de Ukan 2019 is the winery's second wine: a Tempranillo from a selection of Rioja Alavesa vineyards, with a fruity, fluid profile that is easy to enjoy. It goes well with Iberian tapas, pasta with structured sauces and traditional stews.
