Gianni Gagliardo Italian Wines

Gianni Gagliardo

La Morra • Langhe • Piedmont

"In the hills of La Morra, Gianni Gagliardo interprets Nebbiolo with unique sensitivity. His wines not only tell the story of a terroir, but also the tireless pursuit of harmony between power and lightness."

Liquid Architecture in the Langhe Hills

The history of the Gianni Gagliardo family is fundamental to understanding the evolution of modern Italian wine. Based in La Morra, the winery has perfected the art of Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA), the classification system for unique vineyards in Barolo. According to the Consorzio Barolo Barbaresco, this geographical precision is what allows labels such as Lazzarito or Castelletto to express the region's geological diversity.

At La Cava Shop, our Gagliardo curation focuses on wines that respect the identity of the Nebbiolo grape. Stefano Gagliardo, the current winemaker, applies a philosophy of minimal intervention in the cellar, using spontaneous fermentations and balanced aging in large Slavonian oak foudres to preserve the alpine freshness of Piedmont.

Barolo: The Ultimate Expression

Gagliardo's Barolos are internationally recognized by critics such as Antonio Galloni (Vinous) for their vertical elegance. These are wines for aging that evolve from notes of violets and roses to complex aromas of leather, truffle, and tar.

Barbera d'Alba: Character and Energy

For those seeking an introduction to Piedmont, Gagliardo's Barbera d'Alba offers vibrant acidity and explosive red fruit. It is an essential component in our selection of premium red wines, ideal for pairing with Langhe's local gastronomy.

Sommelier's Technical Protocol

Oxygenation and Service Management

A Gianni Gagliardo Barolo should be served at a strict temperature of 18°C. Given Nebbiolo's natural tannic load, decanting for at least 90 minutes is necessary to "stretch" the wine and allow the aromatic layers to unfold. For advanced tasting guides, you can visit the official website of Gianni Gagliardo Winery.

The Art of Piedmontese Pairing

The acidic and tannic structure of these wines demands foods with high fat or protein content. Brasato al Barolo (braised beef), dishes enriched with Alba white truffle, or long-aged cheeses like Castelmagno, create a perfect technical synergy that balances the wine's power.
