GRAN ALMA NEGRA
VINTAGE 2018

A BLEND OF PLEASURE • SPECIAL RESERVE • ARGENTINA

"The ultimate revelation of the enigma: a cult wine where time and land merge into absolute elegance."

🇦🇷 ORIGIN: UCO VALLEY, MENDOZA | 🍇 GRAPE: SECRET HIGH-END BLEND | 🏺 WINERY: ERNESTO CATENA VINEYARDS

The Pinnacle of Mystery

The Gran Alma Negra 2018 is the result of a relentless pursuit of perfection within Ernesto Catena Vineyards. Produced under a philosophy of deep respect for the environment, this wine uses grapes from the coldest and most calcareous areas of the Uco Valley. The 2018 vintage was exceptional in Mendoza, allowing for a slow maturation that translates into silky tannins and vibrant natural freshness. It is a wine designed to transcend, where each glass tells a different story that only the palate can decipher.

1. Identity Profile

Winery: Ernesto Catena Vineyards.

Origin: Uco Valley (High Altitude Vineyards), Mendoza, Argentina.

Vintage: 2018.

Aging: 20 to 24 months in new and second-use French oak barrels.

Volume: 750 ml.

Composition: Secret blend of red grapes (Selection of plots).

2. Sommelier's Notes

Appearance: Very deep garnet red with dark violet hues. Great density and visual elegance.

Nose: Of great complexity and successive layers. It begins with ripe black fruits (figs, plums), followed by mineral notes (graphite), sweet spices, fine leather, and a finish of bitter cocoa and vanilla.

Palate: It has an imposing yet balanced structure. The mouthfeel is unctuous, with firm tannins perfectly rounded by time in the bottle. Its finish is eternal and profoundly sophisticated.

4. Pairing and Suggested Moments

Gastronomy: A wine of this caliber demands high cuisine. It is the perfect companion for game meats (wild boar, venison), premium cuts such as a bone-in Ribeye, or dishes with red wine reductions and black truffle. Long-aged cheeses and high-cocoa chocolate also harmonize masterfully.

Suggested Moments:

  • Special Celebration: The wine to commemorate life milestones, anniversaries, or memorable achievements.
  • High-Level Business: A choice that projects confidence, good taste, and wine knowledge.
  • Gala Romantic Dinner: For an unforgettable evening where wine is a shared luxury experience.
  • Prestigious Gift: The ideal gift for executives, collectors, or connoisseurs of author wines.
  • Gourmet Barbecue: Elevates a barbecue of selected cuts to a superior gastronomic category.
  • Distinguished Family Meal: To share excellence with those we value most at a Sunday dinner table.

frequently asked questions (FAQS)

What makes "Gran" Alma Negra different from the rest of the line?

It is the winery's ultimate expression. It comes from a more rigorous selection of grapes, has a much longer aging in wood, and greater potential for evolution in the bottle.

How long can I cellar it?

Thanks to its structure and the quality of the 2018 vintage, this wine can evolve favorably in the cellar for the next 15 to 20 years.

Is decanting necessary?

Absolutely. It is recommended to decant for a minimum of 60 minutes to allow its multiple aromatic layers to open up and the tannins to express themselves with complete smoothness.
