Drinking the Earth: Wine
By G. G. Jolly

A Day Dedicated to Mother Earth
In 1969, after an oil spill in Santa Barbara, the initiative to dedicate a day to the planet emerged. What began as a proposal by John McConnell at UNESCO evolved into a global movement led by Gaylord Nelson and Denis Hayes, solidifying April 22nd as International Mother Earth Day, ratified by the UN in 2009.
From the Kyoto Protocol to the Paris Agreement, humanity has sought to protect this common home. For the oenophile, this protection is not abstract: it is felt in every sip.
The Land and Wine: From Planet to Furrow
For wine lovers, the connection to the land is crucial. The Earth provides the global basis, but the soil (the ground) is what expresses itself sensually. Calcareous, volcanic, or granitic soils condition the life of the vine. If the soil is the foundation, the climate is the architect of the wine.
The French concept of Terroir is the intersection where soil, climate, and human hand produce unrepeatable identities. However, climate change and erosion threaten this delicate symbiosis.
The Ethics of Soil and Sustainable Wine
Authors such as Wendell Berry and Sir Roger Scruton remind us that true conservation is born from local love (oikophilia). Wine is, in essence, "earth with a soul" that can be drunk.
At Lacava.shop, we believe in this sacred bond. Therefore, our curation emphasizes wines that respect natural cycles and the integrity of the ecosystem.

Philosophy in Every Bottle
Drinking a wine that respects the earth is an act of resistance against modern alienation. It is turning our gaze back to the soil, to the stones, and to the culture that each geography distills.
