Marqués de Griñón
Dominio de Valdepusa • Spain's First Vino de Pago • Spain
"The legacy of the visionary Carlos Falcó: wines that defied history to define the concept of Pago in Spanish terroir."
The Revolutionary of Montes de Toledo
To speak of Marqués de Griñón is to honor the memory of Carlos Falcó, the agronomist and visionary who transformed viticulture in Spain. His estate, Dominio de Valdepusa, located in Malpica de Tajo, made history by being the first to receive the prestigious Vino de Pago designation, an official recognition endorsed by the Ministry of Agriculture of Spain.
Under the influence of great mentors like Émile Peynaud, Falcó integrated cutting-edge techniques such as drip irrigation and precision viticulture. Today, the winery is a benchmark in the Grandes Pagos de España association, producing labels that are synonymous with sophistication and balance.
Pillars of the Winery
Unique Varieties
Absolute mastery with Cabernet Sauvignon (planted in 1974), Syrah, and Petit Verdot. The latter finds perfect ripeness in the heat of Toledo, which has been praised by international publications like Decanter.
The Pago Concept
Unlike regional appellations, Vino de Pago guarantees that 100% of the grapes come from an estate with distinct geological characteristics. This concept is similar to the French Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée system, whose standards can be consulted at the French INAO.
"The quality of a wine is born in the vineyard; we are merely its guardians."
Wines for Laying Down
Labels such as Emeritvs represent the ultimate expression of blending at Dominio de Valdepusa. With meticulous aging in French oak, these wines have the capacity to evolve in bottle for decades, achieving outstanding scores in the Guía Peñín for their complexity and elegance.
