Matar Winery
Estate Wines • Golan Heights • Kosher
"Born from the vision of Tal Pelter, Matar is the perfect union between the rigor of Kosher law and the creative freedom of one of Israel's most brilliant winemakers."
The Strength of the North
Located in Kibbutz Ein Zivan, Matar Winery takes advantage of the unique conditions of the Golan Heights. At an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level, the vineyards grow on volcanic basalt soils that provide exceptional minerality and depth.
The thermal contrast of the Golan allows for slow ripening, preserving the acidity that critics from James Suckling and other international guides have highlighted in the winery's scores. Under the direction of Tal Pelter, Matar has redefined the standard for wines with Kosher certification in the region.

Inquiries for the Connoisseur
What is the difference between Pelter and Matar?
Both wineries are managed by Tal Pelter. The difference lies in the Kosher certification. To learn more about the history of the Pelter family and their impact on Israeli viticulture, you can consult IsraelWines.
Volcanic Terroir: Basalt and Minerality
The soil of Ein Zivan is rich in basalt. This geological composition, detailed in studies by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, is what gives Matar's reds their backbone and longevity.
