GRAN RESERVA

MARQUÉS DE RISCAL • RIOJA ALAVESA

MONUMENTAL • VELVETY • ETERNAL

"The pinnacle of Riojan mastery: a Gran Reserva that embodies patience and the wisdom of time. A wine of sublime elegance and infinite complexity born from old vines."

The Triumph of Patience

The Gran Reserva from Marqués de Riscal is a liquid testament to the terroir of Elciego. It comes from an exhaustive selection of vines over 30 years old, whose fruits possess the necessary structure to withstand years of slumber in barrel and bottle, resulting in an immortal collector's item.

1. Identity Profile

  • Origin: Rioja Alavesa (Elciego), Spain.
  • Varietals: Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo.
  • Winery: Marqués de Riscal.
  • Aging: 24-30 months barrel / 36 months bottle.
  • Alcohol Content: 14% Alc. Vol.
  • Potential: 20 to 40 years.

2. Sommelier's Notes

Appearance: Medium-high intensity cherry-red color. Noble evolution towards brick-red and intense garnet hues that denote its long stay in the bottle.

Nose: Immense and complex bouquet. Notes of stewed black fruit intertwine with cigar box, incense, bitter chocolate, and a refreshing balsamic background.

Palate: Silky and aristocratic entry. The tannins are pure velvet, with a round structure and an extraordinarily long finish that evokes memories of fine woods.

4. Pairing and Serving

Fine Game Cuisine: Its complexity is the perfect ally for a wild boar civet, stewed partridge, or roasted venison with red fruit sauces.

Cuts and Stews: Pairs exceptionally with long-aged Rib-eye, oxtail, or Castilian-style roasted suckling lamb.

Recommendation: Serve between 17°C and 19°C. A minimum decantation of 40 minutes is required to allow the bouquet to fully open.

Frequently Asked Questions

What differentiates Gran Reserva from conventional Reserva?

Gran Reserva comes exclusively from old vines and undergoes a much longer aging process (5 years), which gives it a much silkier texture and deeper tertiary aromas (tobacco, leather, incense).

Is it suitable for collecting?

Absolutely. Due to its structure and acidity, it is one of the wines with the greatest aging potential in Spain, capable of evolving for decades in the cellar.
