PIASTRAIA
2020

MICHELE SATTA • BOLGHERI SUPERIORE • TUSCANY

"The soul of the winery: an architecture of flavors that defines the greatness and longevity of the Bolgheri terroir."

🇮🇹 ORIGIN: BOLGHERI SUPERIORE DOC, ITALY | 🍇 CABERNET, MERLOT, SYRAH & SANGIOVESE | 🍷 WINERY: MICHELE SATTA

The Ultimate Expression of the Vineyard

Piastraia 2020 is **Michele Satta's** most personal and emblematic wine. Born from the conviction that the four most representative varieties of the estate — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese — can coexist in a single world-class wine. Each grape contributes a layer of complexity: structure, smoothness, spice, and freshness. The 2020 vintage, after 24 months of aging in French oak barrels, delivers a deep, elegant wine capable of evolving masterfully in the bottle for decades. It is, in essence, the definition of a Bolgheri Superiore with its own identity.

1. Identity Profile

Specific Origin: Selected parcels in Castagneto Carducci, Bolgheri, Tuscany.

Winery: Michele Satta.

Composition: 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 25% Syrah, 25% Sangiovese.

Aging: 24 months in 225-liter French oak barrels, followed by 12 months in bottle.

Philosophy: Artisanal winemaking with indigenous yeasts and no aggressive filtration.

Volume: 750 ml.

2. Sommelier's Notes

Appearance: Dark and impenetrable ruby red with deep violet hues.

Nose: Aristocratic and complex aroma. Notes of black forest fruits (blackberries, currants), noble tobacco, leather, black pepper, and a balsamic background that provides a mentholated freshness stand out.

Palate: Enveloping and impactful. The tannins are dense but of extreme finesse. A total harmony is perceived between the power of the alcohol and the vibrant acidity, culminating in a persistent and spicy finish reminiscent of dark chocolate.

4. Pairing and Recommendations

Gastronomy: An age-worthy wine that ideally accompanies full-flavored dishes: grilled red meats, oven-roasted lamb with Mediterranean herbs, game (deer, wild boar), or aged cheeses with great character such as Pecorino Toscano DOP.

Service: Serve at a temperature of **18°C**. It is recommended to decant at least 1 hour before consumption to allow all layers of the blend to express themselves fully.

frequently asked questions (FAQS)

What does the name Piastraia mean?

The name comes from the local term for the flat stones and stony soils where the vineyards are located, which is fundamental for the drainage and mineral concentration of the wine.

Is it a collector's wine?

Undoubtedly. Piastraia is one of the most respected red wines from Bolgheri, and its structure allows it to age gracefully for over 20 years if stored properly.

Why blend French and Italian grapes?

Michele Satta believes in harmony. Sangiovese provides the soul and acidity of Tuscany, while the Bordeaux grapes and Syrah provide the structure and silkiness necessary for a world-class wine.
