MACHETE
PETITE SIRAH BLEND • CALIFORNIA, USA
Red Wine
"Power, audacity, and mystery: a cult blend that defies conventions with its overwhelming intensity and visually disruptive character."
The Aesthetic of Liquid Power
Machete is not just a wine; it is a declaration of principles from Orin Swift Cellars. Dave Phinney uses Petite Sirah as a brush of darkness to create a massive, almost viscous blend that has redefined the concept of Californian blends. With its iconic series of 12 labels, Machete is a complete sensory experience: from visual provocation to the explosion of dark fruit and structure that dominates the palate without asking permission.

2. Sommelier's Notes
Appearance: Deep, opaque purple color, practically impenetrable, with an inky rim that elegantly stains the glass.
Nose: Explosive aromas of ripe blueberry, black plum, and wild flowers. As it opens up, it reveals complex notes of dark chocolate, freshly ground black pepper, and an undertone of toasted vanilla.
Palate: Massive and unctuous entry. It possesses silky but present tannins that coat the palate with layers of mocha, concentrated black fruit, and spices. The finish is long, powerful, and decidedly bold.
3. Style Analysis
4. Pairing and Recommendation
Cuts and Grills: An unbeatable ally for aged Rib Eye, braised beef ribs, or grilled lamb with an herb crust.
Local Fusion: Spectacular with Oaxacan Black Mole, where the wine's density harmonizes with the chocolate and spices of the dish.
Robust Dishes: Extremely intense cheeses (Cabrales) or black fruit reductions with venison.
Serving: Serve between 17°C and 19°C (62.6°F and 66.2°F). Decanting is recommended to oxygenate its imposing structure.
