SICILY • WINE OF ITALY

★★★★★ 4.9 / 5 (22 REVIEWS)

"Liquid gold born from the Mediterranean sun. A sumptuous, sweet, and noble passito that balances the opulence of the Zibibbo grape with Firriato's technical elegance."

🇮🇹 ORIGIN: BORGO GUARINI ESTATE, SICILY, ITALY | 🍷 STYLE: SWEET, COMPLEX & SUMPTUOUS DESSERT WINE | 🏷️ WINERY: FIRRIATO

Mediterranean Sumptuousness and High Expression of the Zibibbo Grape

The Firriato L´Ecru Passito Sicily Dessert Wine - Wine of Italy is one of Firriato winery's most acclaimed works of art. Produced exclusively in the unique terroir of the Borgo Guarini Estate in Agro di Trapani, this elixir pays homage to the tradition of great wines classified by the natural passito method. It comes from 100% Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria) grapes meticulously dehydrated to concentrate aromas and sugars. The result is an excellent and deeply sweet dessert wine, which stands out not only for its seductive density, but also for a fresh acidic backbone that cleanses the palate, offering an aristocratic, complex, and fascinating aromatic profile.

2. Luxury Tasting Notes

Appearance: Displays a dazzling intense golden yellow color, bright and clean, with deep amber reflections and dense legs that denote its magnificent concentration.

Nose: Of extraordinary aromatic impact. Offers complex bursts of orange blossom honey, peaches in syrup, dates, and dried fruits (such as figs and almonds), perfectly integrated with notes of candied orange peel, white roses, and a refined mineral and balsamic background.

Palate: Dense, voluptuous, and majestically sweet entry. The richness of natural sugar velvety coats the palate, but is immediately balanced by a vibrant and clean acidity. The aftertaste endlessly repeats notes of candied fruits and honey, concluding in a noble, elegant finish with a freshness that invites further sips.

4. Recommended Moments and Pairings

Precision Gourmet Pairing: As a high-end sweet wine, it harmonizes extraordinarily with fine pastries. It is the perfect companion for fruit tarts (apple, pear, or apricot), traditional panettone, custard-based desserts, millefeuille, and artisanal almond cookies. However, its most sublime pairing is achieved by contrast: it is spectacular alongside a platter of mature and complex cheeses such as blue cheese, Roquefort, Gorgonzola, or with foie gras paired with fig jam.

Suggested Moments:

  • Special Celebration: The ideal grand finale for toasts at anniversaries, gala dinners, weddings, or birthdays, elevating the dessert moment to a fine patisserie experience.
  • Romantic Dinner: Its sensual character, brilliant golden color, and suggestive floral and honeyed aromas create an intimate and highly sophisticated atmosphere to end an unforgettable evening.
  • Business (Closing Deals or VIP After-Dinner): Serving a sophisticated passito like L´Ecru at the end of a corporate lunch denotes high status, hospitality, and profound gastronomic knowledge, fostering successful agreements during the after-dinner conversation.
  • The Perfect Gift: Its exclusive 500ml bottle and Firriato's stellar reputation make it an extremely elegant gift, ideal for collectors of fine wines and discerning gourmets.
  • Summer (Terrace Afternoons): Served well chilled (10°C), it is a delicious option to enjoy during summer afternoons, accompanying a platter of fresh fruit, ripe figs, and toasted almonds outdoors.

frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is the origin and the winery that produces this red wine?

This distinguished dessert wine is produced by the prestigious Firriato winery. Its specific origin is in the selected vineyards of the Borgo Guarini Estate, in Agro di Trapani, within the wine region of Sicily, Italy.

Is this wine dry, semi-dry, or sweet?

Firriato L´Ecru Passito is an authentic and nobly sweet dessert wine. It contains no added sugars; its sweet sumptuousness is entirely due to the natural concentration of Zibibbo grape sugars during their drying process under the sun.

What type of grape is this passito wine made from?

It is made from 100% Zibibbo (also historically known as Muscat of Alexandria) variety, one of the most emblematic and valued aromatic grapes of the Mediterranean heritage in Sicily.

At what temperature is L´Ecru recommended to be served?

It is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10°C and 12°C. Enjoying it chilled allows its vibrant acidity to stand out, preventing the sweet sensation from saturating the palate and enhancing the freshness of its floral and dried fruit notes.
