GRAN ENEMIGO
GUALTALLARY 2019

SINGLE VINEYARD • 100 POINTS • ARGENTINA

"The pure vibration of limestone: an eternal wine that redefines the boundaries of Cabernet Franc in the new world."

🇦🇷 ORIGIN: GUALTALLARY (MONASTERIO), UCO VALLEY | 🍇 GRAPE: CABERNET FRANC, MALBEC | 🏺 WINERY: EL ENEMIGO

Bottled Perfection

Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard Gualtallary 2019 is not just a wine, it is a statement of principles from the El Enemigo winery. Hailing from the prestigious Monasterio area, where the soil is a desert of stones covered by calcium carbonate, this red achieves verticality and electric energy. Under the direction of Alejandro Vigil, the 2019 vintage reached the pinnacle of top scores thanks to its superb balance between fruit ripeness and a mineral freshness that seems to come from the heart of the Andes Mountains.

1. Identity Profile

Winery: El Enemigo (Vigil & Catena).

Origin: Gualtallary, Tupungato, Uco Valley (1,470 masl).

Vintage: 2019 (Internationally acclaimed).

Aging: 15 months in 100-year-old French oak foudres.

Volume: 750 ml.

Composition: 85% Cabernet Franc, 15% Malbec.

2. Sommelier's Notes

Appearance: Deep garnet red with purple hues, of great chromatic intensity.

Nose: A magnetic bouquet that opens with notes of graphite, gunpowder, and wet stone. Then black fruits, wild thyme, white pepper, and a subtle floral background of violets emerge.

Palate: It possesses a fascinating structural tension. It is a vertical wine, with an unmistakable granular chalky texture. Its acidity is refreshing and guides an eternal, saline, and profoundly sophisticated finish.

4. Suggested Pairing and Occasions

Gastronomy: Its mineral structure requires dishes of great finesse. It pairs perfectly with aged beef cuts, rosemary lamb, confit duck, or dishes with black truffle and wild mushrooms. It is sublime with hard cheeses such as a long-aged Parmigiano Reggiano.

Suggested Occasions:

  • Special Celebration: The wine for life's most important milestones.
  • Business: A mark of distinction and knowledge for closing high-level deals.
  • Prestigious Gift: The crown jewel for any collector of cult wines.
  • Romantic Dinner: A deep sensory experience for an unforgettable night.
  • Premium BBQ: The perfect companion for cuts like Tomahawk or Wagyu on the grill.
  • Family Meal: To share excellence at a table that values history and the land.

frequently asked questions (faqs)

What does it mean for a wine to be "100 points"?

It means it has received the maximum rating from international critics, recognizing it as a perfect wine in terms of balance, typicity, and aging potential.

Can I store it for many years?

Absolutely. Its acidity and mineral structure give it an aging potential of over 20 to 30 years, evolving to an even greater complexity.

Is Gualtallary better than Agrelo?

It's not better, it's different. Gualtallary offers freshness and mineral tension, while Agrelo stands out for its volume and sweet tannins. Gualtallary is the preferred profile for those seeking verticality.
