GRAN ENEMIGO
GUALTALLARY 2019

SINGLE VINEYARD • CHALK TERROIR • ARGENTINA

"The pinnacle of Cabernet Franc: a wine that isn't just drunk, it's felt like the pure vibration of the mountain range."

🇦🇷 ORIGIN: GUALTALLARY, UCO VALLEY, MENDOZA | 🍇 GRAPE: 85% CABERNET FRANC, 15% MALBEC | 🏺 WINERY: EL ENEMIGO

The 100-Point Wine

The Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard Gualtallary 2019 is, for many, the crowning achievement of Alejandro Vigil. In this vintage, Mendoza's dry and luminous climate allowed the Gualtallary vineyard to express its most sophisticated facet. The extremely poor and calcareous soils of this micro-region contribute a saline tension and a chalky texture that defines its character. It is a wine that defies time, balancing astounding power with an ethereal elegance that only the world's great wines achieve.

1. Identity Profile

Winery: El Enemigo (Vigil & Catena).

Origin: Monasterio, Gualtallary, Uco Valley (1,470 masl).

Vintage: 2019 (Historic perfect-score vintage).

Aging: 15 months in century-old French oak foudres.

Volume: 750 ml.

Soils: Alluvial, with high content of calcium carbonate and white stones.

2. Sommelier's Notes

Appearance: Intense, deep purple-red with brilliant reflections that denote exceptional health.

Nose: Infinite complexity. Notes of graphite, gunpowder, and wet stone coexist with black fruits, wild flowers, and a hint of fresh spices like thyme and green pepper.

Palate: An explosion of minerality. It is a vertical wine, with electric acidity and tannins that feel like silk and chalk. Its finish is eternal, leaving a saline and profoundly elegant memory.

frequently asked questions (FAQS)

Why is this wine so sought after?

It's the combination of a unique terroir (Gualtallary), a star winemaker (Alejandro Vigil), and a perfect vintage (2019), which has resulted in maximum international critical acclaim.

Is it suitable for long-term cellaring?

Yes, its acidic and mineral structure gives it a potential bottle life of over 30 years, evolving into notes of astonishing complexity.

Is decanting necessary?

Absolutely. It is recommended to decant at least 90 minutes before consumption so that the power of the calcareous and fruit notes can aerate and reveal all their layers.
